Guests at the Abbey are a part of a community for their six days there, and have to take a share in the chores involved in keeping things running. We were divided into 3 groups, seals, puffins and otters, each responsible for setting the tables, serving everyone and clearing away after a meal and other chores such as cleaning the common areas. For me, Iona will always mean onions, and the tears they brought to my eyes as I chopped, chopped, chopped each morning, along with some of my fellow otters. Thursday was our last full day on Iona and we took a group picture with most people in it

And on Friday we were all on our way home - including a lone cyclist who
took an early ferry from Iona and beat us to the ferry for Oban
